We are thrilled to offer new and exciting courses each year. This year, Lisa Hagen Glynn (she/her), a Seattle-based music photographer, will explore the intricacies of making images of musicians at work. Lisa’s work has appeared in DownBeatThe WireJazz TimesAll About JazzThe Seattle Times, the Seattle alternative The Stranger, the nonprofit Earshot Jazz, and the blog Back Beat Seattle. She covers hundreds of shows a year from a range of musical genres, with equal love for small local venues, large arenas, and festivals. Since 2021, Glynn has also published her own Seattle music and culture blog, Hardly Raining.

EXPANDING BODY AWARENESS TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE WITH PEGGY PROTZ

Whether your body is the instrument (as in singing or dancing), or you use your body to play an external instrument, when performing you want to be at the height of your craft. In this experiential workshop Peggy Protz, Feldenkrais® Practitioner will demonstrate specialized techniques designed to expand physical awareness and fine tune your use of self. Utilizing focused attention, these practices naturally improve freedom of movement, ease of breath, and the ability to stay “tuned in” and “connected” for performance, or for life. As you are guided through a unique movement experience, deepen your understanding of the power of awareness and body based attention.

Drawing from their extensive experiences teaching in the styles of Cuba, Brazil, and the Caribbean we explore the rich and varied rhythmic legacy at the root of modern jazz. Duende Libre workshops include hands-on, call-and-response sessions and collective jamming. Participants will leave with a deeper appreciation and understanding of how they can utilize these techniques and rhythms in their own music
